STOP-DOING LIST & TO-DO LIST

In his book, Good To Great, Jim Collins encourages leaders to develop a “stop-doing list” and make it just as substantive as the “to-do list.”  There is no doubt that educators live busy lives and often try to build momentum by doing, doing, doing and doing some more.  Our “to-do lists” are huge.  However, successful educators have the ability to unplug, put down, avoid, and discard unnecessary junk.  They end up channeling their resources into very few arenas.  They don’t lose focus and they don’t let side issues overwhelm them.  Let’s stay focused on our purposes in the classroom—to win hearts and to win minds—as this is what our parents, communities and stakeholders are asking of dream makers.
